ASME SA736 is a low-carbon, age-hardening, Ni-Cu-Cr-Mo alloy steel sheet material used in the manufacture of pressure vessels. SA736 is available in two grades or levels: SA736 Class A and SA736 Class C.

This specification ASME SA736 covers two grades of low-carbon age-hardened alloy steel plates for welded pressure vessels and piping components. These two grades are nickel-copper-chromium-molybdenum-niobium alloy steel and nickel-copper-manganese-molybdenum-niobium alloy steel. They are SA736 Class A and SA736 Class C. The heat treatment procedure for grade 1, 2, and 3 plates is introduced. The steel should meet the required chemical composition. The mechanical properties of steel plates are described in detail, including tensile test requirements and notched toughness requirements.
